The U's took an unlikely lead just 12 minutes into the game at Field Mill, scoring through Harry Anderson's low effort into the bottom left corner from a narrow angle. With the Essex side hovering just above the drop zone on goal difference, Mansfield would have expected to steamroll to three points. The league leaders did find a way back into the game through Lewis Brunt's leveller but could not find that all important winner.

By dropping two points, Mansfield have opened up the opportunity for those snapping at their tails to crawl ever-closer. Wrexham have the chance to move within three points of the top should they win away at Grimsby Town. However, the Red Dragons will be checking over their own shoulders at Stockport and MK Dons, who could yet prevent them from achieving automatic promotion. There are three places up for grabs.

DID YOU KNOW?

It was revealed that Wrexham's club value has over tripled under their Hollywood ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Shaun Harvey, the club's director, disclosed that since February 2021 the club's value has grown from £2 million ($2.5m) to £9m ($11m). Should the Red Dragons be promoted again, the club stocks will surely only continue to swell.
